The act of reflection is valuable as a tool to learn about the ways that we have succeeded and to discover areas in which we desire to improve.
It is significant to note that certain questions must be asked: “What are the mountains that you have climbed this year? Have your valleys been times in which God has shown Himself to you?
If we are to be successful mentors to whom our young people can depend, we must take a moment to allow God to correct, encourage, and challenge us.
Consequently, to move forward in Christ, reflection is necessary.
How might you reflect on 2021 with your mentee? Encourage them to look back at the triumphs and disappointments. Inquire about how you can assist them better in 2022.
We see the premise of reflection in Scripture in the life of the Apostle Paul as he expresses the totality of his life to his mentee, Timothy: “I have fought the good fight. I have finished my course. I have kept the faith.”– 2 Timothy 4:7-8
Reflection causes us to look at the good, the bad, and the ugly of our lives and compare it to the matchless example of Jesus Christ.
As you and your mentee become more disciplined in this practice, you will not only improve your relationship with Christ, but your relationship will be one that others will admire as you do the work of Christ.
City Gospel Mission honors all of the mentors in our program in all that you do to impact our youth. If you know of another Christian adult who would like to share in this great work of mentoring, please contact us.
We are wishing you a prosperous new year!
The City Gospel Mission youth mentoring program is looking for churches and individuals with which to partner. If you or your church has a calling to minister to Greater Cincinnati’s youth, please email us at youthmentoring@citygospelmission.org to learn how you can make an impact in their lives.
